Most digital
cameras do not have a PC cord connector terminal on the camera body. Just a hot
shoe on top of the camera. This adapter allows the user to connect any strobe flash to the adapter and not burn up the camera
electronics. It reduces the voltage that goes to the camera flash sync to a safe
6 volts.
Many strobes or flashes on the market have a sync
connection to the flash that is very high in voltage to the camera’s sync
terminal (PC terminal or hot shoe). Some as high as 200 to 400 volts. A high
voltage like this can easily burn up a digital camera. This
adapter can be used with studio flashes as well as hot shoe flashes.
It has a Locking Shoe Foot to the Sony Alpha Series DSLR and Minolta Maxxum Digital Cameras That Have This Shoe On The Camera Body. If
your camera does not have this shoe mount on the camera body, this adapter will
not work. See photos
below.
The adapter (shown below) has a female PC type sync
terminal to plug your non shoe mount flash cord into the adapter. The top of the
adapter ALSO has a hot shoe to hold a standard ISO hot shoe mount flash (non
dedicated, non TTL). (Sources – Adapter body is imported, safe voltage sync
